This is a historically important island being the seat of British power and capital of these Islands in ancient days. Now Ross island stands as a ruin of the bygone days with the old structure almost in debris. There is a small museum named 'Smritika' in this island holding the photographs and the other antiques of the Britishers.
Viper island holds a significant place in the history. The first jail was constructed here which was destructed after the construction of Cellular Jail.The Britishers used to harbour convicts here. It has a gallows above the hillock where condemned prisoners were hanged.
Chatham island has Asia’s biggest and oldest Saw mill. This Saw Mill lying on the tiny island is connected by a bridge over a stretch of sea-water. The main mainland -Island harbour is located in this island.
