There are not many museums in Andaman and Nicobar islands, but the one which exists worth a visit. The museums in Andaman and Nicobar island archipelago are:
National Memorial is the Cellular Jail situated at the Viper Island in Port Blair. This was built by the British in the year 1906. The Jail reminds about the sufferings of the Indian Freedom Fighters who were tortured by the Britishers in this Jail. The convicts were transported in this jail to serve the punishment. In this jail the prisoners were kept in darkness and were not allowed to meet other prisoners. This jail is now converted to a National Memorial as it depicts the sacrifice of Freedom fighters.
National Memorial is like a pilgrimage centre for all freedom lovers. You can visit at any time. There is an art gallery and museum inside the Memorial.
Anthropological Museum of Andaman and Nicobar Archipelago is located at Phoenix Bay. This historical museum depicts the life of the Paleolithic Islanders. You can also watch the models of the aborigines and their tools.
Situated near Andaman Water Sports Complex, ithis Museum houses an attractive collection of species of marine life peculiar to the islands and found only in the Indo-Pacific and the Bay of Bengal.
Naval Marine Museum (Samudrika)
Naval Marine Museum otherwise called as Samudrika is developed to create awareness on various aspects of oceanic environment. This museum holds a good collection of shells, corals and a few species of colourful fishes found in the. Naval marine Museum is situated opposite to Andaman Teal House.
Zoological Survey of Indian Museum
This is a museum as well as research library. The museum exhibit a good variety of sponges, corals, butterflies, centipedes etc. This is helpful for students.
Forest Museum situated at Haddo offers information on various forest activities through scale models and displays decorative pieces made of famous woods like Padauk, Marble, Peauma, Gurjan, Satin Wood, etc. Visiting this museum will be a different experience.
